   Obito escapes Madara's hideout in time to watch Rin die in front of him. The loss shatters everything he believed. He decides reality itself is the enemy — a place not worth saving, only replacing.

   Obito takes up Madara's identity and the Eye of the Moon Plan. Behind the masks of the goofy "Tobi" and of "Madara" himself, he steers the Akatsuki toward a world-ending genjutsu.

   Obito goes public, drags the shinobi world into the Fourth Great War, and becomes the jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails — the central threat the whole Allied force is raised against.

   Naruto's refusal to give up reaches Obito where nothing else could. At the edge of death, Obito turns on the plan he built his adult life around, and gives what is left of himself to defend the world he tried to erase.

Obito spent decades preparing in the dark, and his arsenal shows it. His Mangekyō Sharingan grants Kamui, a power that makes him untouchable; Madara's reconstruction gave him Wood Release; and in the war he took the Ten-Tails itself. Beneath the powers was his sharpest weapon — a patience for deception measured in years.

• Who is Obito Uchiha?+

  Obito Uchiha is a shinobi of the Uchiha clan and a former teammate of Kakashi Hatake. Believed dead during the Third Shinobi World War, he survived to become the masked man behind the Akatsuki, and the central villain of the Fourth Shinobi World War.
• Is Obito the same person as Tobi?+

  Yes. "Tobi" was one of Obito's masks. For much of Shippūden he posed as a goofy Akatsuki recruit named Tobi, and also claimed to be Madara Uchiha himself. Both were disguises for Obito, hiding his identity and his plan.
• How did Obito survive Kannabi Bridge?+

  During the Kannabi Bridge mission, Obito was crushed under a boulder and presumed dead — but Madara Uchiha had him recovered and rebuilt his ruined body with Hashirama Senju's cells, saving his life and binding him to the Eye of the Moon Plan.
• Why did Obito turn evil?+

  Obito's turn came with Rin's death. After escaping Madara's hideout, he witnessed Rin — the girl he loved — killed in front of him. The loss shattered his idealism, and he came to see reality itself as something to be replaced.

  Kamui is Obito's Mangekyō Sharingan technique. It lets him warp himself, or a target, into a separate pocket dimension — making him intangible and effectively untouchable for short stretches of a fight.
