How to Play Narutodle
A complete walkthrough — every mode, every column, every hint.
Narutodle is a free daily puzzle: guess today's Naruto character using attribute feedback. The roster covers 210+ canon shinobi drawn from the Shippūden finale, and three game modes frame the same puzzle in three different ways. You don't need an account. Progress stays in your browser.
The three modes at a glance
The 9-column attribute grid. One puzzle per UTC day, shared globally.
A darkened portrait that brightens with each wrong guess. Its own daily character — different from Classic, capped at ten attempts.
Random character every round. Practice between daily puzzles — no daily-streak pressure, session wins only.
Classic Mode, step by step
- 1Open narutodle.app. The daily Classic puzzle loads automatically. No login, no tutorial pop-up.
- 2Type a character name. Autocomplete shows matching Naruto characters. Arrow-keys or click to pick one.
- 3Read the colour grid. Green means the column matches, yellow is partial, red is miss. Arrows on Ninja Rank and Debut Arc point toward the answer.
- 4Narrow the roster. Use the feedback to eliminate characters. Progressive hints unlock after 5, 8, and 12 wrong guesses.
- 5Solve and share. When all cells turn green, the win modal shows your streak and a spoiler-free share button.
The 9 columns, explained
Every guess renders one row under the column headers. Scan left-to-right; green cells tell you what to keep, yellow narrows your search, red eliminates a whole branch.
- Gender
- male, female, or other. Single-value — green on match, red otherwise.
- Clan
- Named clans only: Uchiha, Hyūga, Senju, Nara, Akimichi, Aburame, Uzumaki, Hōzuki, Yuki, Kaguya, and so on. Civilians or unnamed families show None.
- Village
- The 10 Hidden Villages (Konoha, Suna, Kiri, Kumo, Iwa, Ame, Taki, Kusa, Yugakure, Otogakure) plus None for wanderers and Ōtsutsuki figures.
- Ninja Rank
- Ordered: Academy → Genin → Chūnin → Tokubetsu Jōnin → Jōnin → ANBU → Kage. The up/down arrow points toward the answer. Rogue and None are off-ladder — you'll see red with no arrow.
- Jutsu Types
- Multi-select across Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Kinjutsu, Senjutsu, Fūinjutsu, Iryō-Ninjutsu, Kenjutsu, Kugutsu, Juinjutsu. Green on full match, yellow on any overlap.
- Nature Types
- Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning, Earth, Yin, Yang, and Yin-Yang (the Six Paths composite). Kekkei Genkai compound natures (Wood, Ice, Lava, etc.) live in their own column.
- Kekkei Genkai
- All dōjutsu and compound-nature releases — Sharingan, Byakugan, Rinnegan, Tenseigan, Wood / Ice / Lava / Boil / Storm / Scorch / Dust / Magnet / Crystal / Swift / Steel / Dark / Explosion releases, plus Shikotsumyaku.
- Attributes
- Special tags: Jinchūriki, Tailed Beast, Sage Mode, Six Paths Sage, Edo Tensei, Sensor, Medical Ninja, Puppeteer, Summoner, Legendary Sannin, Akatsuki, Seven Swordsmen, Hokage.
- Debut Arc
- The first arc the character appears in on-screen — Prologue, Chūnin Exams, Konoha Crush, Sasuke Retrieval, Kazekage Rescue, Sasuke & Sai, Hidan & Kakuzu, Itachi Pursuit, Pain's Assault, Five Kage Summit, Fourth Shinobi World War. Ordered — the arrow shows direction.
Colour and symbol code
Every cell is colour plus symbol, so colour blindness never blocks play. Green leaves carry a ✓. Yellow chakra carries a ~. Crimson ninja wall carries a ✗. On the Ninja Rank and Debut Arc columns an ↑ means the answer is higher in the order, ↓ means lower. No gameplay information is encoded in colour alone.
Progressive hints
A cold streak shouldn't end the game. Classic mode unlocks hints as you rack up wrong guesses:
- 5 misses — Vital Status (alive or deceased at end of Shippūden).
- 8 misses — Primary Chakra Nature (the first element in their affinity list).
- 12 misses — Village (the hidden village label).
- 20 misses — you can Reveal the answer outright. This counts as a loss and resets your streak.
Picking a good first guess
Your opener should split the roster, not confirm a specific hunch. Two rules of thumb:
- Start with a main cast entry. Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, or Kakashi Hatake cover many columns — named clan, Konoha village, a Kage or Jōnin rank, several jutsu types. Whatever comes back immediately narrows village, rank, and clan in one go.
- Read arrows, not just colour. A red Ninja Rank with an ↑ tells you the answer is somewhere higher than your guess. If you guessed Jōnin and see ↑, the answer is ANBU or Kage. Don't burn guesses on lower ranks.
Silhouette Mode
Silhouette strips the attribute grid and gives you the portrait instead — darkened at first, brightening with each wrong guess. You get ten attempts total; a tenth miss ends the round and reveals the answer. A correct guess swaps the silhouette for the full-colour avatar with a brief crossfade. Scoring is star-based: 1 guess = ★★★★, 2 = ★★★, 3–5 = ★★, 6–10 = ★. Silhouette runs its own daily slot, so it is a different character from Classic every day — solving one does not give away the other.
Unlimited Mode
Unlimited reuses the Classic grid but rolls a random character each round. Nothing persists across reloads and your daily streak is untouched. Use it to warm up before the daily puzzle, keep playing after you've solved, or test your memory against deeper cuts of the roster. Streaks here are session-only.
FAQ
- When does a new Narutodle puzzle start?
- Midnight UTC. The countdown on the home page shows the next reset in your local wall-clock time.
- Does Narutodle include Boruto characters?
- No. The roster is frozen at the end of Naruto: Shippūden (manga chapter 700) so every attribute has one canonical value.
- How are streaks calculated?
- Your streak counts consecutive UTC days with a solved puzzle. Losing, giving up, or skipping a day all end it — the next win starts a fresh streak at 1. Streak is tracked per mode (Classic has its own, Silhouette has its own).
- When do progressive hints unlock?
- After 5 wrong guesses you see whether the answer has a kekkei genkai (a bloodline trait). After 8 you see the primary chakra nature. After 12 you see the village. After 20 you can reveal the answer outright.
- Do I need an account to play?
- No. Classic and Silhouette progress — today's guesses, streak, stats — lives in your browser's localStorage. Unlimited is session-only, so reloading the tab starts a fresh run. Clearing site data resets everything.
- How does sharing work?
- After a win, press Share to copy a spoiler-free emoji grid plus the site URL. On mobile it uses the native share sheet, on desktop it copies to clipboard.
- Is Narutodle official?
- No. Narutodle is an unofficial fan project. Character names, artwork, and biographical data remain the property of Masashi Kishimoto, Shueisha, and related rights holders. See the DMCA page for takedown requests.
- Can I play on mobile?
- Yes. The grid is responsive and scrolls horizontally on narrow screens so every column stays readable.
- What about colour blindness?
- Every colour also carries a symbol — ✓ for correct, ~ for partial or adjacent, ✗ for wrong, · for neutral (neither side has this attribute) — plus arrows on the ordered columns. Nothing in the game relies on colour alone.
- How do I switch between modes?
- The three-tab nav near the top of every mode's hero section (Classic, Silhouette, Unlimited) jumps between them. Progress is kept per mode.
