Sharingan & the Copy
Obito's transplanted Sharingan lets Kakashi see chakra, predict an opponent's movement, and copy almost any technique he watches. It is the source of the name Copy Ninja.

Also known as Kakashi, Copy Ninja, Sixth Hokage, Kakashi of the Sharingan
Kakashi Hatake is a shinobi of Konohagakure, the leader of Team 7, and one of the most accomplished ninja of his generation. Known as the Copy Ninja for the Sharingan in his left eye, he mentors Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno, and later becomes Konoha's Sixth Hokage.
Kakashi is the only son of Sakumo Hatake, a shinobi so respected he was called the White Fang of the Leaf. His mother died when he was young. Kakashi graduated from the Academy at the age of five, first in his class, and was promoted to chūnin not long after.
His childhood turned hard early. Sakumo once abandoned a mission to save his comrades, was disgraced for the choice, and later took his own life. The young Kakashi drew the opposite lesson — that the rules came first, always — and grew cold and rigid because of it.
He was placed on a team under Minato Namikaze with Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara. It was Obito, on the mission that nearly killed them both, who taught Kakashi the lesson he carried for the rest of his life: that those who abandon their comrades are worse than those who break the rules.
Kakashi graduates the Academy at five and makes chūnin young, carrying the weight of his father's name. When Sakumo is disgraced and takes his own life, Kakashi reacts by clinging to the rules — and becomes cold and distant for it.
Placed on a team with Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara under Minato, Kakashi clashes with the reckless Obito. On the Kannabi Bridge mission Obito is crushed saving him, and as a dying wish has his Sharingan transplanted into Kakashi's damaged eye.
Not long after, Kakashi loses Rin as well, in a way he could never make peace with. The trauma awakens his Sharingan's next stage, the Mangekyō — a power bought with grief.
Worn down by losing both teammates in quick succession, Kakashi joins the ANBU at Minato's urging. He spends years as one of the village's quiet operatives before stepping back into the open.
Kakashi finally accepts a genin team — Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura — and passes them on the bell test because they grasp teamwork. He hands his students the lesson Obito once handed him.
In the Fourth Shinobi World War Kakashi fights beside the reborn Obito and briefly wields the full power of Kamui. After the war he accepts the role he once would have refused, and becomes Konoha's Sixth Hokage.
Kakashi is called the Copy Ninja. The Sharingan he received from Obito lets him read and reproduce techniques on sight, and over his career he is said to have copied more than a thousand of them. He commands all five basic chakra natures — an almost unheard-of range — and fights with ninjutsu, swordsmanship, and a strategist's read of the battlefield.

Kakashi's own creation — lightning chakra concentrated into the hand for a single piercing thrust. Its refined form, the Lightning Blade, is sharp enough to cut a bolt of lightning.
The Mangekyō Sharingan technique that opens a rift to another dimension. Kakashi warps incoming attacks — or part of an enemy — clean out of reality.
Kakashi summons a pack of ninja hounds, led by the small and blunt-spoken Pakkun, to track a target by scent and pin it in place.
Kakashi can use lightning, fire, water, earth, and wind release — the full set of basic natures, a range almost no other shinobi matches.
Obito Uchiha
Kakashi's childhood teammate and his dark mirror. Obito gave Kakashi his Sharingan and the lesson about comrades, then survived in secret and turned his own grief into a war. Each is what the other might have become.
Rin Nohara
The third member of Team Minato. Kakashi lost her in a way he carried for years, and her death is bound up with the awakening of his Mangekyō Sharingan.
Minato Namikaze
Kakashi's jōnin-sensei and the Fourth Hokage. Minato guided him as a young prodigy and later pulled him toward the ANBU when grief had nowhere else to go.
Sakumo Hatake
Kakashi's father, the White Fang of the Leaf. Sakumo's disgrace and death shaped the rigid, rule-first boy Kakashi became before Obito changed his mind.
Might Guy
Kakashi's self-declared eternal rival since their own youth, and one of his steadiest friends. Guy's relentless challenges are a constant Kakashi quietly relies on.
Naruto Uzumaki
A student on Team 7. Kakashi recognised early what Naruto could become, and handed him the start of the Rasengan and the value of his bonds.
Sasuke Uchiha
A student on Team 7. Kakashi taught him the Chidori and saw his own younger self in Sasuke's drift toward revenge — and tried, for years, to pull him back.
Sakura Haruno
A student on Team 7. Kakashi held a high opinion of her chakra control and intelligence well before Tsunade refined them into an elite medical-nin's skill set.

Prologue (Land of Waves)
Kakashi is one of the quickest characters to confirm once the right column lights up. His Nature Types column is the giveaway — he can use all five basic natures, a range almost no other character on the board has. His Hatake clan is tiny, his Kage rank narrows the field hard, and he carries the Sharingan without being an Uchiha, an unusual Kekkei Genkai reading. His Konoha village and broad jutsu types are the only common columns. Kakashi debuts in the Prologue, the earliest arc, so the Debut Arc arrow will point down toward him.
