Kushina Uzumaki is a Konohagakure kunoichi of the Uzumaki clan, the second jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails, and the mother of Naruto. Brought from the Hidden Eddy as a child to carry Kurama, she grew into a fierce, warm-hearted master of sealing — and gave her life shielding her newborn son.
Kushina was born in Uzushiogakure, the Hidden Eddy, into the famed Uzumaki clan — a people known for vast life force and an unmatched gift for sealing.
She was brought to Konohagakure as a child for a specific reason: the Uzumaki vitality made her able to contain the Nine-Tails, and she was chosen as Kurama's second jinchūriki, after Mito Uzumaki.
The other children mocked her round face and her red hair, calling her "Tomato." Kushina answered with her fists — and the sight of that red hair whipping around her as she fought earned her a better name.
Kushina is born to the Uzumaki clan of Uzushiogakure and brought to Konohagakure as a child — chosen, for the Uzumaki life force in her, to one day carry the Nine-Tails.
Sealed with Kurama and mocked as "Tomato," Kushina does not shrink. She declares she will become the first female Hokage — loud, headstrong, and refusing to be made small.
Kumo ninja kidnap Kushina for her sealing power; she leaves a trail of her own red hair, and Minato Namikaze follows it and saves her. He tells her that hair she hated is beautiful — and she loves him for it.
Kushina marries Minato, and in time carries their child. For a while she has the thing the war-torn years of her youth never let her have — an ordinary, settled, happy life.
Naruto's birth weakens the seal holding the Nine-Tails. A masked man strikes in that moment, tears Kurama free of Kushina, and turns the beast loose on Konohagakure.
Kushina and Minato die together, their bodies between Kurama's claw and their newborn son. Before the end, Kushina leaves Naruto a message — not advice, just the love of a mother who will not see him grow.
Kushina was an Uzumaki through and through — vast chakra, a stubborn life force, and the clan's deep gift for sealing. She was a master of fūinjutsu, and could produce the Adamantine Sealing Chains, chains of pure chakra strong enough to hold down a tailed beast. As the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki she carried Kurama itself, and held it without ever letting it rule her.

Kushina's Uzumaki clan is a strong signal that narrows the board, and her Jinchūriki attribute narrows it further — only a short list of characters carry it. Her Konohagakure village and Jōnin rank trim a little more, and her Nature Types column runs Water, Fire, and Yin. She has no Kekkei Genkai. She debuts in Kurama's Tale, a late arc, so the Debut Arc arrow points up toward her.
