Byakugan
The Hyūga clan's ocular kekkei genkai. Neji's reaches far past the clan's standard range, and he uses it as a sensor's tool as much as a fighter's.

Also known as Neji, Hyūga Genius
Neji Hyūga is a shinobi of Konohagakure and a member of the Hyūga clan's branch house. A prodigy marked from childhood with the branch house's cursed seal, he spent years believing fate was fixed at birth — until a loss to Naruto Uzumaki taught him otherwise. He died in the Fourth Shinobi World War, protecting the people he loved.
Neji was born to Hizashi Hyūga, into the Hyūga clan's branch house. When the clan's heiress, Hinata, turned three, four-year-old Neji was branded on the forehead with the branch house's cursed seal — a mark that bound branch members to serve the main house, and that could be used to inflict pain or even death.
Soon after, a foreign ninja tried to abduct Hinata for the secrets of the Byakugan. The clan head, Hiashi, killed him — and when the offended village demanded a body in return, Hizashi, Hiashi's twin, took his brother's place and died. Too young to understand, Neji grew up believing the main house had simply spent his father's life.
He became a cold, brilliant boy, certain that fate was decided at birth and could not be escaped. He aimed that belief like a weapon at anyone he judged weak — including his cousin Hinata.
Neji is born into the Hyūga branch house, and at the age of four his forehead is marked with the clan's cursed seal — the mark that binds branch members to the main house for life.
When a foreign village demands a life after a failed abduction, Neji's father Hizashi dies as the body double of his twin, the clan head. Neji is too young to understand the choice, and grows up believing the main house forced his father to die for them.
Neji becomes a genius of the Gentle Fist and a fatalist — certain that a person's place is fixed at birth. He likens himself to a caged bird, and turns the belief, coldly, on anyone he thinks is weak, his cousin Hinata included.
In the Chūnin Exams, Neji fights Naruto Uzumaki, who flatly refuses to accept that fate cannot be changed — and beats him. The loss cracks Neji's fatalism open for the first time.
Free of the fatalist creed, Neji trains alongside Rock Lee and Tenten under Might Guy. He learns the truth at last: his father did not die on the main house's order — Hizashi chose to die, out of love for his brother.
On the battlefield, Neji throws himself in front of an attack meant for Naruto and Hinata, and takes the blow with his own body. He dies content — protecting the people he loved, the way his father once had, by his own choice.
Neji was called a genius even by Hyūga standards. Like all of his clan he wields the Byakugan and fights in the Gentle Fist, but he pushed both further than most — widening his field of vision far past the clan's usual range and teaching himself techniques the main house normally kept to itself. He is also a sensor, reading chakra at a distance through the same eyes.
The Hyūga clan's ocular kekkei genkai. Neji's reaches far past the clan's standard range, and he uses it as a sensor's tool as much as a fighter's.
The Hyūga fighting style. Neji channels chakra into precise strikes on the body's chakra points, doing internal damage with little outward force.
A rapid sequence of strikes that seals sixty-four of an opponent's chakra points one after another — a main-house technique Neji learned on his own.
Neji releases chakra from every point at once while spinning, forming a rotating shield — the Hyūga's ultimate defence, which he taught himself.
A long-range Gentle Fist strike: Neji fires a blast of compressed air to hit a target he never has to touch.
Hinata Hyūga
Neji's cousin, from the Hyūga main house. He once dismissed her as weak and fought her brutally in the Chūnin Exams — and, by the end, was one of the people he gave his life to protect.
Hizashi Hyūga
Neji's father, who died as the body double of his twin brother. Neji misread that death as servitude for years, until he learned Hizashi had chosen it himself.
Hiashi Hyūga
Neji's uncle and the head of the Hyūga clan. Long the target of Neji's resentment, Hiashi was the one who finally told him the truth about his father's death.
Might Guy
The jōnin who led Team Guy. Guy gave Neji a place to grow into the free man he became, away from the weight of the clan.
Rock Lee
A teammate on Team Guy. Lee's refusal to be limited by a lack of talent quietly mirrored the lesson Neji learned from Naruto.
Tenten
A teammate on Team Guy, and a frequent training partner for Neji's long-range and defensive techniques.
Naruto Uzumaki
The Chūnin Exams opponent whose flat refusal to accept a fixed fate beat Neji — and broke open the fatalism that had defined him since childhood.

Neji's Hyūga clan and the Byakugan in his Kekkei Genkai column travel together and narrow the board to the roster's Hyūga, the same way they do for any clan member. What separates him is rank: Neji is a Jōnin, which sets him apart from the genin-level Hyūga like Hinata. His Sensor attribute trims the field a little further. His Konoha village and plain ninjutsu and taijutsu do little on their own. Neji debuts in the Chūnin Exams arc, early, so the Debut Arc arrow usually points down toward him.
