Byakugan
The Hyūga clan's ocular kekkei genkai. It gives Hinata almost 360-degree sight, vision through walls and across long distances, and a clear view of an opponent's chakra network.

Also known as Hinata
Hinata Hyūga is a kunoichi of Konohagakure and a member of the Hyūga clan. Born its heiress, she grew up timid and unsure of herself under a father who thought her weak. Drawing quiet courage from Naruto Uzumaki, she became a brave and capable fighter — and the person who stood between Naruto and Pain.
Hinata is the eldest daughter of Hiashi Hyūga and the first heiress of the Hyūga clan's main house. As a child she was raised for that role, but she struggled with the clan's harsh training and with her own gentle, timid nature.
Her father came to see her as unsuited to lead. In a match meant to settle the succession, Hinata would not bring herself to truly hurt her younger sister, Hanabi, and lost. She was passed over as heiress and placed in the care of Kurenai Yūhi.
What set Hinata apart was not talent but a stubborn kind of empathy. Of all the children her age, she was one of the few who understood Naruto Uzumaki — another child the village overlooked — and she quietly took his refusal to give up as the example she would follow.
Hinata is raised as the Hyūga heiress, but her father decides she is too timid and too soft for the role. In a match to settle the succession she will not truly hurt her sister Hanabi, and is passed over — handed instead to the care of Kurenai Yūhi.
Placed on Team 8 with Kiba Inuzuka and Shino Aburame under Kurenai, Hinata finds a corner of the shinobi world away from the Hyūga main house and the pressure that came with it.
In the Chūnin Exams, Hinata is matched against her own cousin, Neji, who tells her she cannot change what she is. She loses the fight badly — nearly fatally — but for the first time she refuses to back down.
Hinata takes Naruto's stubbornness — his flat refusal to quit — as the model for the person she wants to be. Away from anyone's notice, she trains, and slowly stops being the girl the clan wrote off.
When Pain has Naruto pinned and helpless, Hinata throws herself between them. She tells Naruto she loves him and fights on though she is hopelessly outmatched — the bravest thing she ever does.
Hinata fights through the Fourth Shinobi World War as a capable kunoichi in her own right, and steadies Naruto on the battlefield in the moment his will nearly breaks.
Hinata fights in the Gentle Fist, the Hyūga clan's signature style. Paired with her Byakugan — which sees through obstacles, gives almost a full sphere of vision, and reveals the body's chakra network — the Gentle Fist lets her strike the exact points where chakra flows and shut them down with the lightest touch. Judged weak as a child, she built most of her strength through quiet, stubborn training meant to prove that judgement wrong.
The Hyūga clan's ocular kekkei genkai. It gives Hinata almost 360-degree sight, vision through walls and across long distances, and a clear view of an opponent's chakra network.
The Hyūga fighting style. Hinata channels chakra into precise jabs that strike the tenketsu — the points along the chakra network — doing internal damage with almost no outward force.
A rapid series of Gentle Fist strikes that seal an opponent's chakra points one after another, shutting down their chakra flow.
Hinata's own signature technique — two lion-shaped shrouds of chakra around her fists that drain the chakra of whatever they strike.
A defensive Gentle Fist technique: Hinata spins out a dome of chakra threads that deflects attacks from every direction at once.
Naruto Uzumaki
The person Hinata admired and quietly loved, and the example she built herself around. She drew her courage from his refusal to give up, and confessed her feelings the day she stepped between him and Pain.
Neji Hyūga
Hinata's cousin, from the Hyūga branch house. He was her Chūnin Exams opponent and once dismissed her as weak — and later became one of her firmest protectors.
Hiashi Hyūga
Hinata's father and the head of the Hyūga clan. His judgement that she was unsuited to lead shaped the timid girl she was, and the woman she pushed herself to become.
Hanabi Hyūga
Hinata's younger sister, who became the Hyūga heiress in her place. Hinata loved her too much to fight her seriously — the very softness her father held against her.
Kurenai Yūhi
The jōnin who led Team 8 and took Hinata in when the clan set her aside. Kurenai was, in practice, a second parent to her.
Kiba Inuzuka
A teammate on Team 8, loud and direct where Hinata was quiet — and steadily protective of her.
Shino Aburame
A teammate on Team 8, the calm, observant counterweight to Kiba on their tracking-focused squad.

Chūnin Exams
Hinata's fastest tell is the pairing of her Hyūga clan and the Byakugan in her Kekkei Genkai column — the two always travel together, and they narrow the board to the roster's Hyūga. From there, her Genin rank separates her from the clan's jōnin-level members. Her Konoha village, her plain ninjutsu and taijutsu, and her common chakra natures do little on their own. Hinata debuts in the Chūnin Exams arc, early, so the Debut Arc arrow usually points down toward her.
