   Guren serves Orochimaru as a loyal, cold-edged subordinate, desperate to prove her worth to him. Cruelty comes easily to her, and she rarely questions the orders she is given.

   Against her own intentions, Guren grows attached to Yūkimaru. The cold subordinate begins to act less like a guard and more like someone with a person of her own to protect.

   In the end Guren accepts Naruto's view: Yūkimaru belongs with neither Orochimaru nor her. She turns on the plan she served, and makes sure Naruto gets out alive to give the boy that future.

She shapes crystal into walls, blades, and projectiles in an instant, and a direct hit can turn a target to solid crystal.   Guren is a Sound kunoichi loyal to Orochimaru and the only wielder of Crystal Release. She features in the anime's Three-Tails' Appearance arc, where she is set to guard the boy Yūkimaru and slowly turns against Orochimaru's plan.

  Crystal Release, or Shōton, is Guren's unique kekkei genkai. It lets her create and shape crystal at will — walls, blades, and a crystallising touch — and is powerful enough to fight and briefly defeat the Three-Tails.
