White Secret Technique
Chiyo's named puppet style — the counterpart to Sasori's Red Secret Technique and Kankurō's Black.
チヨ · 千代
Also known as Elder Chiyo, Granny Chiyo, Honoured Elder
Chiyo is an elder of Sunagakure, a famed puppet master and medical-nin, and the grandmother of Sasori. She raised the grandson who became an Akatsuki killer, sealed a tailed beast into a newborn Gaara — and, at the end of a long life heavy with regret, gave that life to set one of those wrongs right.
Chiyo was a kunoichi of Sunagakure who became the village's foremost expert in two crafts at once — the puppet, and the poison.
In her long life she served as a retired counsellor of the Hidden Sand and an honoured elder, and once led Sunagakure's Puppet Brigade.
She was also at the heart of the family that produced Sasori — and, when her grandson was orphaned, the one who took him in.
Chiyo rises as Sunagakure's foremost puppeteer and poison expert, and a medical-nin whose skill is named a rival to Tsunade's. In her prime, she leads the village's Puppet Brigade.
When Sasori is orphaned, Chiyo takes him in. She teaches him puppetry to comfort a grieving child — and finds in him a prodigy beyond anything she had taught before.
At the Kazekage's request, Chiyo seals the One-Tail into the newborn Gaara. It is a duty done for the village — and a wrong she will carry, quietly, for the rest of her years.
Sasori leaves Sunagakure as a missing-nin. For Chiyo, it is a grief without an ending — a grandson she raised, gone over to something she cannot follow or forgive.
Old now, Chiyo joins the mission to save Gaara, and on it she faces Sasori in battle — fighting beside Sakura against the very grandson she once taught the art.
Gaara lies dead, the One-Tail torn from him. Chiyo uses a life-transfer technique to revive him — spending the last of her own life, in repentance for the seal she placed in him long ago.
Chiyo was a master of three crafts that rarely meet in one shinobi — the puppet, the poison, and the healing art. She could control ten puppets at once, the Father and Mother puppets among them; she was Sunagakure's great authority on poisons and their antidotes; and her skill as a medic was named a rival to Tsunade's. She kept, in reserve, a technique that traded a life to return one.

Chiyo could control ten puppets at once — the Father and Mother puppets among them — even in old age.
Chiyo was Sunagakure's foremost authority on poisons — and on the antidotes that answered them.
A healer whose skill was named a rival to Tsunade's — Sunagakure's own great medical-nin.
A technique that trades the user's own life to restore the dead — the jutsu with which Chiyo revived Gaara.

The Sunagakure puppeteer who carried on the village's puppet tradition that Chiyo helped to shape.

Chiyo's Attributes column is the standout signal — Puppeteer and Medical Ninja together, a pairing almost unique to her on the board. Her Kugutsu jutsu type narrows the answer hard, her Sunagakure village trims it, and her Jōnin rank trims a little more. Her Nature Types column pairs Earth with Water, and she has no clan and no Kekkei Genkai. She debuts in the Kazekage Rescue arc, mid-series, so the Debut Arc arrow can point either way.

I taught Sasori the puppet's art to ease a grieving child. I never imagined I would one day raise a hand against what I made of him.
I sealed that beast into Gaara myself. An old woman has a long time to regret a thing like that.
Take my life, and give it to the boy. It is the only apology I have left that is worth anything.
