Blue Flame Body
Matatabi's entire form is living cobalt-blue and black fire — the flame is not a technique it uses, but the body it is.

Also known as Two-Tails, Nibi, Blue Flame Cat
Matatabi is the Two-Tails, a tailed beast in the shape of a great cat wrapped wholly in blue flame. Polite where most of the nine beasts are fierce, it was sealed within Yugito Nii of Kumogakure — and stayed with her until the Akatsuki tore the two of them apart.
Matatabi is one of the nine tailed beasts, created when Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki divided the chakra of the Ten-Tails into nine creatures and named each.
Its form is a nekomata — a two-tailed monster cat — and its whole body is living cobalt-blue and black flame. Its eyes do not match: one yellow, one green.
Among the nine beasts, Matatabi stands out for its manner. Where its siblings are blunt or wild, Matatabi is courteous and formal, even gentle in how it speaks.
Matatabi comes into being when Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki splits the Ten-Tails into nine beasts. Like its siblings, it is given a name and a self of its own.
Matatabi takes the shape of a great cat, its body wreathed entirely in cobalt-blue and black flame — and it carries itself with a courtesy the other tailed beasts rarely show.
Kumogakure seals Matatabi into Yugito Nii when she is only two years old. She is raised and trained to carry it — and the bond between beast and host settles, more steadily than most.
The Akatsuki come for the Two-Tails. Hidan and Kakuzu defeat Yugito; though she transforms into Matatabi itself, she is overpowered, and the beast is torn from her.
Matatabi is sealed into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path — the Akatsuki's vessel, where the captured tailed beasts were gathered one by one.
At the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Matatabi is freed — released, at last, from the long cycle of being sealed, used, and taken.
Matatabi fights as a creature of fire — its whole body is flame, and Fire Release is its element. Like all nine tailed beasts it holds an enormous reserve of chakra, which it can lend to others, and it can condense that chakra into a Tailed Beast Ball. What sets it apart is less a technique than a temperament: a courteous, formal mind, where its siblings run to rage.

A vast reserve of chakra Matatabi can lend to others, as all nine of the tailed beasts can.
Matatabi's formal, respectful manner — a temperament rare among the tailed beasts, and the thing it is best remembered for.

Matatabi's Tailed Beast attribute is the giveaway — a column hit that only the nine tailed beasts on the board share. Its Village column reads None and its Ninja Rank reads None, and it has no clan and no Kekkei Genkai, so four columns turn grey at once. Its Nature Types column holds only Fire — a clean single-nature reading. It debuts in the Twelve Guardian Ninja era, mid-series, so the Debut Arc arrow can point either way.

I am the Two-Tails. You may address me as Matatabi — and I would thank you to address me politely.
Yugito carried me from the time she was a child. We were not enemies in that seal. That is rarer than it should be.
They sealed me, and used me, and took me. I have waited a long time to simply be left as myself.
