Poison Body
The salamander venom sac made Hanzō's own body toxic — and immune to nearly any poison an enemy could use against him.

Also known as Hanzo, Hanzō of the Salamander, Sanshōuo no Hanzō
Hanzō — feared across the shinobi world as Hanzō of the Salamander — was the legendary leader of Amegakure. A poison-bodied warrior strong enough to defeat the future Sannin and name them himself, he ruled the Hidden Rain for decades, before fear of losing that power turned a legend into a tyrant.
Hanzō was the leader of Amegakure, the Hidden Rain, across an era when the small country was rarely free of war.
As a child, a black salamander with deadly venom was found in his village. When it died, its venom sac was embedded into Hanzō's body — an attempt to create a shinobi who was himself toxic, and immune to all poison.
It worked, and it cost him. Hanzō's own breath became poisonous, and he wore a helmet-like respirator for the rest of his life to keep that poison from everyone around him.
A deadly black salamander's venom sac is embedded in young Hanzō's body, to make a shinobi who is toxic and poison-proof. It does — and leaves him needing a respirator to be near anyone at all.
Hanzō rises as the leader of Amegakure and one of the most feared shinobi alive. For decades, the name Hanzō of the Salamander is enough, on its own, to give other nations pause.
Hanzō single-handedly defeats a Konoha shinobi squad, killing all but the three who survive his first attack. As a reward for that feat, he names those three the Sannin — and lets them live.
In his later years, Hanzō grows afraid of losing the power he has held so long. He sees Yahiko's growing Akatsuki as a threat, allies with Danzō of Konoha, and lays a trap for its leaders.
Hanzō's trap kills Yahiko. Nagato — who becomes Pain — answers it in full, hunting Hanzō down and killing him, along with everyone connected to him.
Brought back by Edo Tensei in the Fourth Shinobi World War, Hanzō faces the samurai Mifune. He sees in Mifune the resolve he himself had lost — acknowledges it, and chooses to let himself be sealed.
Hanzō fought as a poison made flesh. The salamander venom sac in his body left his own breath toxic and his body immune to nearly any poison turned against him. He summoned Ibuse, a giant salamander that could release a poison mist of its own, and closed distance with a chain-sickle. For decades, the simple fact of his name was a weapon in itself.

Hanzō could exhale a poison that brought extreme pain, then numbness, then paralysis and death — the reason for his respirator.

Hanzō's skill with the kusarigama — the chain-sickle — the weapon at the heart of his close-quarters combat.
Hanzō's strength, proven beyond doubt by single-handedly defeating the trio who became the Legendary Sannin.
Jiraiya
One of the three Konoha shinobi Hanzō spared and named — the Sannin owe their title to him.
Tsunade
A Legendary Sannin, named by Hanzō for surviving the attack that killed the rest of her squad.
Orochimaru
A Legendary Sannin, named by Hanzō alongside Jiraiya and Tsunade as a reward for surviving him.
Yahiko
The founder of the original Akatsuki, whom Hanzō feared — and whose death he orchestrated through a trap.
Nagato
Who avenged Yahiko in full, hunting Hanzō down and killing him along with everyone connected to him.
Mifune
The samurai general whose resolve the reanimated Hanzō recognised — and respected enough to choose to be sealed.

Hanzō's Amegakure village is the giveaway — a hidden village almost no other character on the board belongs to — and his Kage rank narrows the answer further. His Attributes column pairs Summoner with Edo Tensei, his Nature Types column runs Fire, Water, and Earth, and he has no clan and no Kekkei Genkai. He debuts in Pain's Assault, a late arc, so the Debut Arc arrow points up toward him.

You four survived my first strike. The other survivors of that day number zero. Call yourselves the Sannin — you have earned the name.
I have held this village for longer than most of you have been alive. I do not intend to be the one who loses it.
Samurai. You still have the thing I traded away years ago — conviction. Seal me. I am done.
